Survivor Series 2003 By: The TBL Staff

It’s the final major pay-per-view of the year, Survivor Series. This appears to have some very good matches on the card. However, once again we are continued to be subjected to a couple of McMahons wrestling.

So once again, we will attempt to do our best and pick the winners and more importantly, the matches to watch and the matches to skip.

Pre-Prediction Comments:

Joe Balrog:
Hey, I haven't had a chance to really get involved in the storylines but I know that HHH is back and my stomach has turned. Looks like the Honeymoon is over - for the fans. I love the big pay-per-views so I look forward to this one.

Trevor Hunnicutt:
Overall, WWE has set up a good card here, especially thanks to an above average effort from Raw over the last month or so that has made for both an entertaining show and a solid PPV build. Hope you've been saving up the last few months, whether or not you plan on getting the show.

Shawn Stinson:
Even though this is the final major PPV of the year for WWE, there is only two men’s title match on the card and the women’s title on the line. I know we have a couple of throwback to the original Survivor Series matches, but not having Brock, Big Show or RVD defend their titles makes little sense.

I do like the fact we have some new guys in some of the matches, but we have two too many McMahons on the card. Enough with Vince and Shane already

Rico Sparko:
On the whole I am really up for this one. I have a couple of questions though. Where is Rey Mysterio, Ultimo Dragon and the ladies?

Eddie:
WWE has done a good job hyping up most of the matches on the card. The fact that many people are talking about purcashing the PPV says something. RAW is the better show heading into the event with the better built storylines.

Vince McMahon vs. The Undertaker

Shawn Stinson:
Who should win: Honestly, everyone with a brain knows the ‘Taker should win this one all day long. However, if the rumors floating around the net are true, than we will be seeing the old ‘Taker at Wrestlemania or Royal Rumble.

Who will win: Well, if the ‘Taker is coming back as the dead man, this match has to go to Vince.

Thoughts: It’s a gimmick match, these can go either way. The last Buried Alive match I remember was Mankind against the ‘Taker and it wasn’t that good. This one is about eight years later and neither the ‘Taker or Vince are that good.

Chris Vining:
Who will win: Vince McMahon.

Eddie:
Who should win: A promoter shouldn't be getting over a wrestler, but in this case I sort of think it's okay. That's only if it's to set up the return of old 'Taker. The wrestling should always be winning.
Who will win: Vince McMahon

Thoughts: The promos on SmackDown were scary... really scary. Vince now thinks he's an actor of some sort, but he's not. My God, this is bad. He needs some time off badly. I hope the match itself won't last too long. I'd look for interference if I were you.

Rico Sparko:
Who Will Win: Vinnie Mac all the way here.

Thoughts: Obvious interference opportunity for Kane setting up a WMXX Deadman V Big red Machine match. I have also heard rumous the daddies little girl could be involved again!

Joe Balrog:
Who should win: Undertaker

Why: He's a wrestler

Thoughts: McMahon needs to hang up the boots, get off the screen, and start working behind the scenes to get his company back on top. Enough already.

Trevor Hunnicutt:
Who will win: Vince McMahon

Thoughts: Yeah, OK. I think that everything that needs to be said regarding any feud between Vince McMahon and the Undertaker being promoted at the top of the card in 2003 has already been said. But taking this for what it is, it's been passable. Undertaker did cut good promos, but there was no reason for him not to be at the shows. The Vince stuff was on overload but at least, unlike his daughter, he can cut very good promos and for this feud, that wasn't an exception.

Ambulance Match
Shane McMahon vs. Kane

Shawn Stinson:
Who should win: Kane. Haven’t we already settled this feud like five times now. I’m getting sick and tired of this feud. Wait, I think I said that about their last PPV match, and the one before that. And the one before that. (Get the picture?)

Who will win: Shane. Heck, he has to win one of these matches doesn’t he?

Thoughts: Another gimmick match. I guess Shane will take more crazy bumps. Like a train wreck waiting to happen

Chris Vining:
Who will Win: Kane

Eddie:
Who will Win: Kane

Who should win: Kane

Thoughts: It's time to build Kane up and it's time for Shane to take a short leave of absence to be by the side of his pregnant wife.

Rico Sparko:
Who should win: Kane

Who will win: Shane

Thoughts: God knows what is going on with these two. We all know Kane should win, but with what has been going on in recent months who knows? I'll go with a Shane win for the hell of it.

Joe Balrog:
Who should win: Kane

Why: He's a wrestler.

Thoughts: Shane should do the same as his father should do and spend as much time backstage and in the office working to turn this WWE thing around as possible.

Trevor Hunnicutt:
Who will win: Kane

Thoughts: The main problem with this angle has been direction. When they brought Shane in three months ago, they had no clue what they wanted to do with him, Kane, the angle, or pretty much anything. They were headstrong and mind numb, changing direction once or even more times in one week. I would've had more respect if WWE presented this as pure enmity or pure comedy/mid-80s cartoonish WWE, but the half-assed nature of this whole thing has been provoking. Shane McMahon says that he's going to put Kane "out of his misery." But I'm not sure if any psychological disease can compare to the grating pain I feel as this angle has played out on RAW since August. It's about time to put this to death, in whatever way less painful, and cut their losses.

Team Bischoff vs. Team Austin
The Dudley Boyz, RVD, Booker T, HBK vs. Y2J, Christian, Steiner, Henry, Orton

Shawn Stinson:
Who should win: If they really want to have fans tune in on Monday, have Team Bischoff win.

Who will win: Honestly, I think they should have Bischoff’s team knock off the Austin team. Sending Austin over the edge.

Thoughts: I’m not a huge fan of the Survivor Series style match. But it should be passable.

Chris Vining:
Who will win: Team Austin with RVD as the survivor.

Eddie:
Who will win: Team Bischoff

Who should win: Team Bischoff

Thoughts: WWE can do a lot with that storyline! For the many possibilities to take place, Team Bischoff must be victorious.

Rico Sparko:
Who Will Win: Team Austin

Thoughts: Now this is what Survivor Series is all about. I am so pleased to see the old format come back. I have to give this to Austin’s team I mean what would RAW be without the Rattlesnake?

Joe Balrog:
Who should win: Ideally, Bischoff.

Why: Because Austin shouldn't be a GM.

Thoughts: Team Austin is probably going to take this one to perpetuate Austin as a GM on RAW. Actually, I'm just looking forward to Coach getting shit-stomped after the match.

Trevor Hunnicutt:

Who will win: Team Austin

Thoughts: Surprisingly enough, this has been more intriguing than it could, and should, have been. However, this angle has also played out to the detriment of some. Austin and Bischoff have way too much air time being the center—especially in the case of Austin—of the shows. It's a horrible idea to have several wrestlers playing second fiddle to an angle, which has happened to a degree, In the build for the Smackdown elimination match, they did a better job not burying Morgan and Jones than Raw did with Christian (IC champion) and Steiner. Admittedly, this has been much more entertaining to watch bloom, which it has in a very good way.

Team Lesnar vs. Team Angle
Brock Lesnar, Big Show, A-Train, Morgan, Jones vs. Angle, Benoit, Cena, Bradshaw, Hardcore Holly

Shawn Stinson:
Who should win: I think Team Angle should pull this one out.

Who will win: I think with the way their had Bob Holly return, he should be the one to pin Brock Lesnar at the end to have his team win to set up a little feud.

Thoughts: See above match.

Shawn Stinson:
Who will win: Team Angle with Benoit as survivor

Eddie:
Who will win: Team Lesnar

Who should win: Team Lesnar. That will allow Morgan and Jones to get over, and fan sympathy for the faces, including new babyface John Cena.

Thoughts: I'm looking forward to this one. However, I must say that the RAW Survivor match has been hyped up and built much better. Hardcore Holly and Bradshaw are important... Since when?

Rico Sparko:
Thoughts: Again a great match on paper. I am expecting to be let down by this though. I have seen Jones with the WWA winning the HW Championship and he sucked then as he still does. Morgan looks pretty stiff and very green to me, but if anyone can pull out a decent match from this it has to be Angle and Benoit.

Joe Balrog:
Who should win: Team Lesnar

Why: They're just about a ton of beef - COME ON!

Thoughts: Team Angle is obviously a much more well-rounded team than Team Lesnar. I don't think that this is being billed as the showstopping match that it has the potential to be. This is really going to be something to watch. I'm looking forward to it!

Trevor Hunnicutt:
Who will win: Team Angle

Thoughts: This has been no more than OK, and for a leading match with some of the top guys a part of the Smackdown brand, including the world champion, it needed to be a lot more. But it wasn't... and Nathan Jones still has nothing to offer. Morgan is too green to roll with the big time. John Cena is face and that will be interesting to see pay out in a big match setting for the first time.

Cruiserweight Championship Match
Tajiri vs. Jamie Noble

Shawn Stinson:
Who should win: Tajiri should win to keep his momentum going.

Who will win: Tajiri has to win this one. Noble’s return from the shadows is to sudden, although I’m sure his girl Nidia will return during this match.

Thoughts: Both of these guys can flat out wrestle. I think from a viewer’s standpoint, this should be the match of the evening

Chris Vining:
Who will win: Tajiri

Eddie:
Who Will Win: Jamie Noble

Who should win: Either one

Thoughts: I'm actually expecting a match of the night candidate here. Both guys are pretty darn good inside the ring and can bring a house down. It's too bad Mysterio isn't in that match! Did WWE completely decide to forget that Ultimo Dragon won a #1 Contendership match on SmackDown!? UGH!

Rico Sparko:
Who Will Win: Tajiri

Thoughts: Should be a solid match. I would much rather see Rey getting the title back here but what the hey. I have to go for Tajiri with a tiny bit of help from his friends.

Joe Balrog:
Who should win: Don't know

Why: Don't really care

Analysis: This has the potential to be a great cruiser match. I wish that WWE would just stop the shit and bring in some of those masked Mexicans and have them jump around - WCW was very good with that.

Trevor Hunnicutt:
Who will/should win: Tajiri

Analysis: You know things are bad with a company when you applaud them simply because they've done something OK. That's all there was to this and that's good: a paint-by-numbers feud with reason to believe that a satisfying, legitimate end will occur at the PPV. Noble did manage to get one good interview in before the PPV, and really, for an undercard feud these days, that's truly amazing, but if anything is holding Tajiri back from a push, it's his gimmick, which I've never enjoyed. As entertaining as it may be (which is another belief I don't subscribe to), he is and is thus portrayed as a joke. Jokes aren't draws, so it is nothing more than an albatross. Tajiri is in the midst of a push, so this match is his to win.

WWE Tag Teams Championship Match
The Bashams vs. Los Guerreros

Shawn Stinson:
Who should win: Los Guerreros because of the way the bookers have already screwed us and had Eddie drop the belt to the Big Show.

Who will win: This one is a toss up, but I have a feeling the Bashams will pull it out and see Chavo turn on Eddie. Hopefully, putting Eddie back on the singles’ path towards the WWE Championship.

Shawn Stinson:
Who will win: The Bashams

Eddie:
Who will win: The Basham Brothers

Who should win: The Bashams

Thoughts: I think it would kind of suck to get the belts off the Bashams so early. And WWE is obviously going with an Eddie/Chavo program down the road, so they might as well start it at Survivor Series. That's sad. Guerrero should be the WWE Champion right now.

Rico Sparko:
Who Will Win: Bashams

Thoughts: Bashams will win this hands down. I saw the same match on the WWE Passport to Pain tour earlier in the year. I was not dissapointed.

I think that the more important thing here is will Chavo screw Eddie. Hell yeah he will!

Joe Balrog:
Who should win: Bashams

Why: Because Eddie winning would put him back in the tag division when he should be a single's guy.

Thoughts: The Bashems are a good duo. Not the greatest, but by no means the worst out there.

WWE Women's Championship Match
Molly Holly vs. Lita

Shawn Stinson:
Who should win: Molly should win and keep the belt a bit longer. I like seeing Lita and Trish chase for the title. In fact, I would have Lita and Trish start a mini-feud between them. Making the women’s title mean more.

Who will win: I have a feeling the bookers will throw the belt on Lita even though she is still a bit rusty in the ring.

Thuoghts: Molly is like the .285 hitter in baseball. Not a superstar, but a solid contributer every night. Lita like I said is still trying to get the rust off. But it should be a good match. And once again, if the rumors are true, perhaps Matt Hardy gets involved. I will keep him as a heel if he does get involved.

Chris Vining:
Who will win: Lita

Eddie:
Who will win: Lita

Who should win: Either one

Thoughts: I certainly feel that Molly Holly and the several other divas are in a much better shape and form than Lita right now. Lita still seems rusty inside the ring, and slow at times. However, I'd love to see her win and complete what has been a tough journey for her. She deserves it and I think she'll collect the payoff at the PPV. Although, WWE loves to throw us for a loop sometimes and then deliver a surprise. After all, Lita can always win on RAW. It'll make for an even cooler moment. Something to think about...

Rico Sparko:
Who will win/Thoughts: Who gives a shit. Only reason to watch this is the possible return of Jazz and the chance Lita might "nip" out! Bring on the puppies!

Joe Balrog:
Who should win: Molly

Why: She's the better wrestler.

Analysis: This is probably one of the few matches where I really don't have a definite idea in my head of which way it will go. The whole Molly push came out of nowhere and at the same time, we have a returning Lita who needs to find her way in WWE again and quick. Lita might walk away with this one.

Trevor Hunnicutt:
Who will win: Lita

Thoughts: Lita's back and I see her going over to regain the Women's championship.

World Heavyweight Championship
Goldberg vs. Triple H

Shawn Stinson:
Who should win: If the ratings jump mean anything, then Goldberg should keep the belt to give the fans something they want.

Who will win: With all the backstage politics and him being a McMahon now, it wouldn’t surprise me to see HHH win this one. However, I going to step out on a limb and believe Goldberg will retain.

Thoughts: HHH has been off a while and Goldberg is supposed to be selling his injury. So it won’t be a great match, but hopefully will be entertaining.

Chris Vining:
Who will win: Goldberg

Eddie:
Who will win: Goldberg

Who should win: Goldberg

Thoughts: I'm kinda proud of Triple H! Got beat on RAW... About to job at the PPV... Not bad. That man is so smart. He knows when to lose doesn't he?

Rico Sparko:
Who Will Win: Goldberg via DQ

Thoughts: My prediction for this is a DQ win for Goldberg with some strange interference from the Billion Dollar Princess. Will she return to save her hubby? Could this be Montreal all over?

Joe Balrog:
Who should win: Goldberg

Why: HHH had his YEAR with the title and Goldberg losing would destroy his reputation as a legitimate contender in WWE.

Analysis: As I said earlier, it looks like the Honeymoon is over - for the WWE fans. Honestly, I try to watch RAW as much as possible and I usually catch all the shows. But when HHH is on I get up and go into the other room and watch football. Most of the time I wind up staying there and missing the rest of RAW. If one person has the ability to do that, then maybe that person should be gone from the show.

Trevor Hunnicutt:
Who will win: Goldberg
