TBLWrestling.com Presents TNA Major Impact!

Those in Glass Houses...
May 17, 2007

Tonight's major impact is the announcement of the King of the Mountain tournament to crown a new TNA World Champion. However, I want to hone in, specifically, on tonight's "Quote of the Night" which you can see at the bottom of this column.

Jim Cornette made a great comment tonight that we heard reiterated from Don West and Mike Tenay throughout the broadcast. There will not be a glass ceiling in TNA like in some other wrestling organizations. Interesting concept, huh? Imagine a wrestling organization where all those who have talent and fan support can rise to the top!

But is this what TNA is really giving us? The first match in the tournament saw Kurt Angle take on Rhino. Remember folks, there's no glass ceiling in TNA...so this match is essentially Rhino's to lose, right?

That's right! And lost it he did! Kurt Angle won after a really great performance by both men. But how odd, huh? You have a wrestler with the best amateur background in professional wrestling history who came into the promotion to much fanfare about a year ago fighting against a wrestler who the fans love to cheer for (and against).

With no glass ceiling in TNA, you'd expect Rhino to walk away with this match and send a message to the wrestling world. What message? That established, long-time stars may not always win in TNA!

As much as I admire Kurt Angle's excellence in the ring, I think TNA really missed an opportunity to take a great catchphrase and turn it into a reality. Further, I think they missed a great chance to really prove that they were something different than what you can watch on Monday and Friday nights.

In other action, we had some good interaction between Eric Young and Robert Roode (I think Eric Young is great) and an appearance by Tiger Mask and Jerry Lynn, who lit the ring up! All in all, a good night for TNA fans.

Quote of the Night:
"There's not going to be a glass ceiling in TNA like in some of these other wrestling organizations" - Jim Cornette taking a shot at "other wrestling organizations"
